Giovanni "DJ Gcue" Sandoz

Two photos from a recent shoot for Giovanni's upcoming single. Haven't seen him spin yet, but I can't wait to hear his track when it finally drops.

Kenmare, Ireland

What a beautiful land Ireland is. I've been going over some scans from our trip there last spring and wanted to share this panorama I shot while driving down the Kenmare pennisula. We truly lost and found ourselves over the course of 10 days, driving cross country discovering castles, sharing with locals, and of course, drinking fine Guiness! I hope to find more images to post from our fantastic trip soon.

Red

While at Montrose Beach this morning making a photograph as part of an ongoing series, I ran into a man and his co-worker in a golf cart on their way to tidy up the restroom area. He joked about grabbing his swimsuit to pose for the cover shoot and was surprised when I said I'd be happy to photograph him. Red, as he introduced himself to me, was a seriously nice guy and we laughed the entire time I photographed him which was over and done in less than 3 minutes. We chatted some more where he told me (amongst other amazing life details) that he is 60 years old! I only hope I'll be as young and full of life when I'm that age. Thanks for making my morning Red.

Untitled Creek Series

Shot some amazing photos today that I'm very proud of and wanted to share. Lots of great images - these are the few not embargoed at this time. Great location, great lighting, great model, great everything! I'm very happy with these. Enjoy.

Breaking Out

Sometimes it's nice to change your direction and focus on creating images that are outside your comfort zone. I for one have never been a very strong abstract photographer, yet while at school I loved the work of Rodchenko. And while a Constructivist and not strictly speaking an abstract photographer, his work really challenged perspective and made the frame a place where we can confound and displace our relationship with the figure/ground. What we typically call abstract photography today is generally unworthy of Rodchenko's name, but for me, his photography will always be the place I start from when thinking of abstract photography.

And in my case abstract photography always means bad images. But being bad at something usually means I just need some more practice, and that's where stepping outside one's comfort zone and exploring new genres can really become educational. I have seen Ghery's Pritzker Pavillion photographed millions of different ways, and had been impressed by a handful of skilled photographers who seemed well versed in the abstract style. So, with a mission in mind, and a great subject at hand, I took myself to task and tried to create some images that went beyond my own comfort zone. A nice change for me with some rather nice results I think.

Starting a Book

Christina has decided to see if she can't pick up some work in front of the camera of other photographers and do to so she needs to put together a portfolio. Last evening we did a short shoot and got a few great images. Here's two that I think would look great in her book.

Some New Portraits

I'm really excited about the wave of new faces I've been able to shoot for my portrait series. A big thanks to everyone who has participated so far. Look forward to more portraits down the pipeline and hopefully a book before long.

Very cool shoot with my friend Lauren. She's got amazingly cool hair to compliment her awesome nerd rims. So many good photos to choose from, so here's a triptych for your enjoyment.

Testing

This is a test photo to check the lighting/color for an upcoming portrait series I plan to do this fall. I really am trying to simplify with the single light while at the same time create a dynamic modeled look. Overhead octabox against gray sweep with silver reflector. It is a great exercise in getting what you want with limited resources.  I have great expectations for this series. Stay tuned...
